The Series 1 pickup line consists of a number of coil architectures with a variety of magnet options. Each of the S1's coil architectures ensures no volume attenuation during the most demanding playing such as string bending and tremolo use. The coils are fully saturated and encased in a rock-solid epoxy cover measuring 3.5" x 1.5" to give low-noise and virtually microphonic free performance. S1.SC & S1.SCDS - Single Coil & Single Coil Deep Seated: The S1.SC is a single coil medium output pickup with a crisp lower range, a well-defined midrange, and superb upper range clarity. The single coil sound has great punch and presence with no drop-out. The transducer's volume-to-noise ratio is excellent making this a great option for the lover of the "single coil sound." The SC also comes with a modified architecture (SCDS - Single Coil Deep Seated) that alters the depth of the coil within the epoxy, adding a greater magnetic "throat" or depth of field. This modification provides improved noise reduction with a slightly "throatier" sound. The S1.SC & S1.SCDS is available in the following configurations:
S1.SCHO - Single Coil High Output: The S1.SCHO has all the features of the S1.SC with a higher output rating which offers a bit more "bite." The three different magnet configuration options alter the pickup's overall characteristics. The AlNiCo magnets round off some of the highs, offering a slightly warmer pickup sound. The Neodymium magnet offers the highest magnetic field, resulting in the highest output of the three available options. The Samarium Cobalt is between that the AlNiCo and Neodymium magnet options, offering much of the warmth of the AlNiCo with greater output like the Neodymium. The S1.SCHO is available in the following configurations:
S1.SCR - Single Coil Rod: The S1.SCR is a single coil clean output pickup with a single bar magnet . The single coil sound has great presence, a punchy crisp sound with defined clarity and no drop-out. Volume-to-noise ratio is excellent, making this another great option for the lover of the "single coil sound." The S1.SCR is available in the following configurations (it can be configured and balanced to other pickup options):
S1.DCPA - Dual Coil Parallel Architecture is a medium/high output dual coil side-by-side (parallel) architecture humbucking pickup. It has a warm overall character with a classic humbucker sound. The S1.DCPA is available in the following configurations:
S1.DCSA - Dual Coil Stacked Architecture is a medium/high output dual coil stacked architecture humbucking pickup with well-defined lower and mid ranges, upper range clarity, and an excellent volume-to-noise ratio. The S1.DCSA is available in the following configurations:

The Series 2 pickup line consists of parallel-coil architecture with a variety of magnet and winding options. Each of the available options is designed to ensure no volume attenuation during the most demanding playing ( string bending and tremolo use). The coils are fully saturated and encased in a rock-solid epoxy cover to provide low-noise and virtually microphonic free performance. These pickups are designed to fit a standard humbucker cavity. S2.HO - High Output: The S2.HO is a High Impedance (Passive) high output humbucker pickup designed for high output playing. The NdFeB (Neodymium) magnets reach out and grab the highs lost by other magnet types. The S2.HO pickup has a deep full sound that does not neglect the higher frequencies and can be pushed, providing rich overtones (thick and consistent). S2.ILSR - In-Line Split Rails: The S2.ILSR is a High Impedance (Passive) high output humbucker pickup designed for versatility with an aggressive edge. The NdFeB (Neodymium) magnets and coil architecture presents a unique magnetic field signature, creating a hybrid pickup with output similar to both stacked and parallel humbucking coil architectures. The frequency is consistent throughout its range with excellent note discrimination. S2.MO - Medium Output: The S2.MO has a classic humbucker output consistent with clean rhythms and rich, well-integrated leads. The High Impedance (Passive) Medium output has a warm sound that many players want from an AlNiCo based pickup. The S2.MO has a well defined frequency range and provides an exceptional option for most playing styles. S2.CT - Clear Tone: The S2.CT has a clean tone humbucker output consistent with clean styles and very suitable for players who want rich clear tone, such as Jazz, country, etc. The High Impedance (Passive) clear tone output is well integrated with exceptional note discrimination. The S2.CTs well broad frequency range provides an exceptional option for many playing styles. S2.LI - Low Impedance: The S2.LI is a Low Impedance Humbucker Pickup (Active) with an impressive bandwidth providing strong harmonics and exceptional note definition. The overall quality of the pickup's dynamic range can easily accommodate many playing styles. The SmCo (Samarium Cobalt) magnets reach out and grab higher frequencies with a slightly warmer top end than other rare earth fields. When The S2.LI is combined with the Ballurio Guitars In-Line Low Noise High Gain Preamplifier, the result is a combination with a broad frequency range suitable for the most demanding performance and studio work. |

More Information on Electromagnetic Transducers.... Pickups! Humbucking pickup RW/RP Pickup Placement. The difference in bridge and neck pickup placement is output. The bridge position generates less volume because of less string movement closer the bridge. Bridge pickups are usually wound "hotter" than neck pickups to help compensate for the reduced string movement/output. This "balancing" of output ensures a more even output between pickups. Magnet Types: AlNiCo magnets are the product of the elements aluminum, nickel, cobalt and trace amount of iron, copper and titanium. It manifests excellent magnetic fields over a broad range of temperatures, however it has a rather low coercive force. AlNiCo magnets have been used in electromagnet transducers since 1950s, and are considered by many to be the premier material for producing a warmth that no other type of magnet produces. The cost of AlNiCo magnets is high. Ceramic magnets are primarily composed of iron oxide and barium/strontium carbonate. They are very inexpensive to produce and very abundant though they produce a very low coercive force. The cost of Ceramic magnets is low. Neodymium iron boron (NdFeB) is a member of the rare earth family of permanent magnets, and is a relatively new form having only entered the market in the early 1980s. It has the highest energy of any permanent magnet material in production today, and are well-suited for high output electromagnet transducers. The cost of NdFeB magnets is low to moderate. SmCo or Samarium Cobalt is also classified as a rare earth permanent magnet, and entered the market in the 1970s. It is divided into two groups: Sm1Co5 and Sm2Co17, referred to as 1-5 and 2-17 respectively, which defines the energy range, the 2-17 being the higher of the two groups. At Ballurio Guitars we use SmCo that fall into the Sm1Co5 group. The cost of SmCo magnets is high.
