The serial number is an embedded "wooden coin" on the back of the guitar near the tail of the instrument.   The coin has two sections which indicate the year of production and the number of the instrument in that year.  The first part is the serial number which is a six digit number.  The last four numbers provide the number of the guitar for the production year.  The year of production is defined buy Roman Numerals at the bottom of the emblem.

Serial Numbers that start with "PRO-XX" indicate a numbered prototype.  The XX is the number of the prototype for the described year,  identified by Roman Numerals at the bottom of the emblem.
